The mission of St. Barnabas is to

Recognize and serve Christ in ALL persons

St. Barnabas is a diverse community of people who are faithful in worship and service. We are welcoming to everyone! Everyone.

When you come to visit these are some people you may meet:

REVEREND DOUGLAS K. BLEYLE is St. Barnabas' Priest-In-Charge. He served as Vicar of St. Stephen’s in Española since 2014 and as Diocesan Coordinator for Native American Ministry focusing on urban ministry, which he has been active in since 2009. He also served in 2012-2014 eventually as Priest-in-Charge of Bishop’s Ridge/Camp Stoney with a focus and charge by Bishop Vono to renovate and revitalize the camp, which he initiated the needed groundwork toward a camp facility that we have at this time in our Diocesan life.

Fr. Doug is married to Jennifer, 23 years now, and they have one young son Paxton who is eight years old. Doug received his M. Div. from Iliff School of Theology in Denver Colorado 2006 and a Master’s of Theology from Candler School of Theology in 2008. He co-authored a book ‘The Gospels and Christian Life in History and Practice’ Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc. June 2009 and an essay entitled “Creating an Ecology of Reconciliation: Marshaling Contemplative Resources for Rites of Reconciliation” in Ambassadors for God: Envisioning Reconciliation Rites for the 21st Century (Liturgical Studies, 5; New York: Church Publishing, 2010).

ANNIE SEDER is our administrator. She is from Oregon by way of Ohio, Vermont, Wyoming, and Washington, and has lived in Cortez since 2017. In her free time she loves to draw, spend time outside, and volunteer with St. B's programming for LGBTQ+ teens.

SUE FREDRICKSON, ANN HASPELS, ROXANNE ROGERS, and HELEN NEWMAN contribute to the music making at St. B's, some on the organ, some on the piano, and one on the guitar and various curious instruments he brings in.  We are so fortunate to have all this talent to help lead our singing on Sundays.

KENDRA BRODERICK, JANICE HANSEN, JANE HOWERTON, CHRIS STRAMEL, JULIE STURMAN, and RHODA YEAGER, make up our vestry. The vestry sets our bylaws, makes financial decisions, and stewards working groups that support the life of the church. VICTORIA ATKINS is our Senior Warden. Our Senior Warden oversees the vestry in the Rector's absence and assists as an advisor to the Rector. BOB HEYL, STAN PIERCE, and BILL STURMAN make up our Junior Warden team, ensuring the safety and function of our building and grounds. JULIE STURMAN is our Treasurer, overseeing the church budget, accounts, and expenditures.
